New York Augmented Reality
Meetup Page ︎

After finishing the Software Engineering Course at Flatiron School, I decided to focus my career solely on Augmented Reality.

I started the New York Augmented Reality meetup in Novemember 2020, in order to begin developing my relationships in the space.

Since then we became one of the leading meetups in the industry and with the help of my wonderful co-organizer of the group Barry Seff, we have hosted over 30 incredible events with speakers from across the globe, in hardware and software industries.

Speakers from AR Related Companies Including:
Applied Materials, Carnegie Melon University , Emagin, Eyeway Vision, JR Artist, Joya Team,, Karl Guttag, LaSAR Alliance, Laan Labs, Leo App, Living Cities , Lynx, Meow Wolfe, MojoVision, Nvidia, Patched Reality, Playnitride, Red 6, Rony Abovitz , Seeing the Invisible, SketchFab, The Art Newspaper , Tilt Five, Tripp, Zappar

Some of the highlights of the meetup includes an in-person meetup created in partnership with Columbia University  where we had amazing speakers, including Jason Laan from Laan Labs, Matt Miesnieks from Living Cities, Jaime Scatena from JR Reality and Emmy Schwab representing the XR Guild.

We also hosted artwork from artist Stephen Black and had software exhibitions from companies including ThirdEyeGen, Varjo, Raayonova, and The 3D App.

It was also really great getting the opportunity to work directly with Ioannis (John) Kymissis, who is Chair of the Dept of Electrical Engineering and also President-elect of the SID, to get the chance ot learn about his experience in the industry.

The Great Display Debate

I also really enjoyed putting together and hosting ‘The Great Display Debate’ with industry leading display experts Jeri Ellsworth and Karl Guttag.  Where they discussed the state of Augmented Reailty Displays and different projection methods including waveguides, MicroLED’s and OLED’s.

I hope to spend more time reading through Karl Guttag’s hardware articles and understanding the physics properties behind the technology.

Art Walk with Shuli Sadè

Lastly I wanted to highlight an in-person art walk that we did with artist Shuli Sade, it was an incredible opportunity to spend time with the group, and Shuli’s work "Birds Eye-View", a site-specific installation inspired by studies of bird
migration and human immigration along the lower Hudson River.

See a list of all our past meetups!

Overall the Meetup has been an amazing way to connect the community, and get the opportunity to learn from incredibly talented professionals in the Augmented Reality industry.

In the future I am interested
1. Hosting more in-person events, at educational venues, such as NYU or Columbia University
2. Connecting with more artists and designers to create projects, that we can showcase /experience with our group.
3. Help connect people with jobs in the AR space.
